Mornings begin with expertly brewed East African coffee, while the evenings flow with gin cocktails, craft beers, boutique wines, and hand-rolled cigars.
With a curated selection of whiskies and cigars, the tavern transforms into a relaxed yet sophisticated hideaway for adults looking for something different in a student-heavy town. Whether you're here for a quiet espresso, an after-work drink, or a late-night conversation, Blix Tavern invites you to settle in and enjoy the finer things.
Our kitchen is open from breakfast to dinner, serving everything from hearty morning plates to late-night bar snacks, all crafted with local ingredients and global inspiration.

CAFFÉ
At Blix, coffee is more than a morning ritual, it’s a journey across Africa. Our custom East African blend combines premium beans from Kenya, Ethiopia, and Burundi, roasted to perfection for a bold, full-bodied cup. Blix coffee offers complex flavour and smooth depth, a favourite among Stellenbosch coffee lovers and true connoisseurs.
FOOD
Our kitchen at Blix has opened its doors to serve you from sunrise to late evening. Whether you’re after a hearty South African breakfast, a light lunch with a glass of wine, or flavourful dinner plates and late-night snacks, the Blix Kitchen delivers comfort and creativity. Perfectly paired with our craft beers, wines, and
cocktails, our food menu completes the Blix experience.
BEER
Blix Beer is brewed with passion and precision in our microbrewery on the Rustenberg Wine Farm in Stellenbosch. Using only the finest imported German hops and malts, paired with pure mountain water from the Simonsberg mountains, each beer is brewed in small batches for exceptional quality.
Perfect for locals and travellers on the Cape Winelands beer route.
CIGARS
Blix proudly offers a signature line of hand-rolled cigars made by Bongani Cigars in Mozambique.
Choose from our Panatela or Petit Robusto, both crafted with African-grown tobacco using traditional techniques. These cigars pair beautifully with a glass of red wine, a dram of whisky, or our signature Blix Gin. Available exclusively at Blix Tavern.
WINE
Our Bordeaux Blend red wine is rich and structured, with notes of dark fruit, plum, and spice. Our Grenache Blanc white is bright and aromatic, with floral and stone fruit layers. Uniquely, we use our brewery’s fermentation tanks to create these handcrafted wines making Blix the only producer in South Africa blending brewing technology with traditional winemaking.
GIN
Blix Gin captures the adventurous spirit of Karen Blixen and the vibrant essence of Africa. Each sip reveals the sweet, ripe notes of yellow fruit from the marula, harmonising with the spicy kick of juniper. The addition of macerated coffee cherries brings a rich moka finish, a nod to Blixen's reflective moments in Kenya. With one coffee cherry in every bottle, Blix Gin is more than a drink, it’s a story, an experience, and a tribute to the romance of a bygone era.
